ENGLAND & the GOODWOOD REVIVAL
September 11 – 19, 2022
The Goodwood Revival is the only major sporting event in the world to take place completely in the period. Furthermore, Goodwood is the only classic circuit in the world to be entirely in its original form, and the whole site has been maintained and dressed to be exactly how it was in the heyday of motor racing – perfect in every detail. It is the ultimate experience – a magical step back in time to a different era, celebrating both motor racing and flying. You will enjoy the thrill of watching the world’s most exotic and valuable historic racing cars being driven absolutely on the limit. The event is an intoxicating mix of incredible machinery, extraordinary driving, fabulous fashion, and the glorious noise and atmosphere of the world’s most evocative cars and aircraft.
We start our program with touring in the Midlands and Southern Cotswolds, the original hub of the British car industry. We enjoy this remarkably beautiful region while visiting the Jaguar and Morgan factories and some notable museums. Two exceptional visits include an Aston Martin restorer and a private tour of the Williams Formula 1 Museum and Trophy Room.
We have two sets of hotel stays at Stratford upon Avon and Oxford. Both first-class classic English hotels with excellent rooms.
September 11 & 12 – Stratford upon Avon – Heathrow arrival and transfer to Stratford upon Avon. Our hotel, the Stratford, is in the heart of the town. At dinner, we are joined by Le Mans winner and Porsche Test Driver, Richard Attwood. Scheduled are visits to the Jaguar and Morgan factories. Also, visits to the Gaydon British Automobile Museum plus a small village garage that has morphed over the last hundred years from a smithy to a funky garage museum. The cars are mainly un-restored classics, the original signage alone will amaze you. Dinner, one night, will be in a 16th-century coaching Inn. Previous diners were a certain Mr & Mrs. Shakespeare.
September 13 & 14 – Oxford – Moving a little further south, we are welcomed at the De Vere Oxford Thames hotel for the next two nights. We are excited to be offering this glorious Medieval hotel set in thirty acres of parkland on the banks of the River Thames. Following our check-in, cocktails will be served on the lawn before dinner in the classic restaurant. Our day in the Oxford area naturally lends itself to the Aston Martin marque. A very well known restorer, raconteur and demonic racer, Desmond Smail shows us his quite dramatic workshops where he re-builds, re-furbishes and sells Aston Martin road cars from DB1’s to present day. Want a DB7 Zagato? Bring your checkbook! We also schedule a visit to the race preparation shop of Tuthill Porsche. A sleepy little village hiding the #1 Porsche historic rally shop. So well prepared that even the Porsche factory uses them.
September 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 – Goodwood – Before we journey to the south coast, we visit the Williams Formula 1 Centre. Once nearly impossible to get into, we are now on the invite list. This remarkable museum displays the incredible history of Williams F1, with every F1 car, from Alan Jones to Ayrton Senna, they are all there. Williams' successful history is on display in the ‘Trophy Room.’ The silver cups, plates and statues depict each winning car and driver. A splendid lunch is arranged by the staff in the VIP room. Following lunch, it’s on to Goodwood House for Lord March's pre-Goodwood cricket match, ending in an amazing Spitfire air display. Dinner includes a guest speaker. Our first taste of the Revival also includes visits to the National Car Museum at Beaulieu and the Bonhams auction. In the evening, we visit a historic pub for dinner. Both Saturday and Sunday, we are based in the "Ultimate Salvadori Suite," the top Hospitality section at the event. The cars are racing through the chicane just a few feet from us. Each day, we are visited by racing celebrities and are also accompanied through the Paddock with Alain DeCadenet, a mine of knowledge. Sunday dinner, we are joined by 5-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell and Brian Redman.
REVIVAL
Allowing you to enjoy this event in total, your Goodwood Revival includes admission to the VIP hospitality suites. Not only do you get trackside viewing but the privacy of our own marquee, which includes breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea and continuous service of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. All this and period entertainment of WWII aircraft and WAAF entertainers. Paddock access is also offered, an opportunity to see the cars up close and mix with both drivers and celebrities. Included in your welcome packet will be a souvenir program and ear set to tune into Radio Goodwood for the entire weekend.
Period attire is suggested but not compulsory and can be as simple as summer frocks/pantsuits and sports jackets and slacks.
