POSITANO & TAORMINA
a Cooking Tour with travel

June 15-23, 2022 9 day tour  WAIT LISTED
or
June 7-15, 2022 9 day tour  (New Date Added)

The Amalfi Coast and the Ionian Sea are two breathtaking areas that welcome us to their shores. Our nine-day program allows us the opportunity to offer a tour of ancient sites, modern hotels, and exquisite food while enjoying the beautiful Mediterranean weather of Positano and Taormina. To enter their kitchens and preparing the wonderful Cucina of the regions is a truly thrilling experience. We totally involve ourselves from shopping the open markets, starting the cooking from scratch, and eventually consuming our efforts. Oh, and Yes! The odd glass of wine has been known to flow! We schedule four-morning cooking sessions, two in Positano, and two in Taormina. This allows us plenty of time for touring locally. On the Amalfi Coast, we include touring the towns of Ravello and Sorrento. We will take the fast boat to the Isle of Capri for a day of exploring this incredibly unique island. Taormina is a melting pot of history with a mix of Greek and Bizantine culture. Again, we visit the markets and then prepare our meals. While both towns are the Mediterranean in lifestyle, their cooking has quite distinct differences. Trips to Mt. Etna and Isola Bella are also scheduled. Available is a full-day visit to Cefalu and the mountain circuit of the Targa Florio, visiting museums and important sections on the course. Sicily produces a lot of wine, and we enjoy an afternoon visit to one of its finest producers. Between all these wonderful highlights, there will be plenty of quiet time to enjoy the shops, the beaches, and spend warm evenings strolling the busy squares and lanes.

ITINERARY

June 15 - Day 1  You are met at Naples International Airport (NAP) by chauffeured van and transferred to Positano. This afternoon at leisure to enjoy the small streets of Positano. Welcome canapes before dinner at the beachside restaurant of Buca di Bacco. Next four nights in Positano.

June 16 - Day 2  This morning the first of two cooking sessions with the top chefs of the Buca di Bacca restaurant. Mid-afternoon we journey along the Amalfi Coast to exclusive Ravello perched overlooking the azure Mediterranean. Early evening return to Positano.

June 17 - Day 3  We depart from Positano by fast boat to the Isle of Capri for a full-day visit. After visiting the delightful central square, we travel the island to AnaCapri and ascend Mt. Solaro by chair lift for outstanding views of the Bay of Naples. Afternoon optional visit to the Blue Grotto (tides and wind allowing). Back in the square of Capri, there is plenty of time to stroll the lanes and the coastal path, while you may also enjoy some of the finest shops of Italy. We return by early evening to Positano.

June 18 - Day 4  Our second session this morning with the chefs at the Buca di Bacco restaurant. Mid-afternoon we journey to Sorrento. This famous resort town is bustling, and the centre section is ‘car free’ and lined with a myriad of shops and bars. Our dinner in Sorrento is at an internationally famous restaurant. We return to Positano mid-evening.

June 19 – Day 5  This morning we return to Naples for a short flight to Sicily. We are met at Catania and transported by private coach to Taormina. The afternoon is at leisure in Taormina. Our hotel is in the town center and close to all the shops, bars and activities. In Taormina for four nights.

June 20 – Day 6  This morning is our first cooking session in Taormina. Chef Massimo will prepare with us vegetable, meat, and fish dishes. We visit the Taormina fish and produce markets before working in the kitchen. Mid-afternoon we drive up to the slopes of Mt. Etna, our height controlled by the activity inside the volcano. This evening we dine in a country pizzeria in a small village just outside of Taormina.

June 21 – Day 7  A full-day visit to Cefalu and the Targa Florio. The ‘circuit Piccolo della Madonie’ was seventy-three kilometers of twisting, mountainous roads. Some of the circuits are now in dis-repair but much we are able to travel. We visit a couple of dedicated museums, the old pits, and a restaurant in one of the villages. This is a long day aimed mainly at the race fans amongst us. If you’re not that big on it, we suggest a quieter day at home. Our hotel has beach access and a cable car that will take you down to sea level plus a visit to the beautiful Isola Bella.

June 22 – Day 8  Our final morning of cooking. Our chef will work with each person in the group to help in preparing a specific menu. This afternoon, we visit a prominent winery with tasting and a light dinner. Back at the hotel, we meet for cocktails for a farewell toast to our tour.

June 23 – Day 9  Day 9 Following breakfast, we depart for Catania and our flight back to Naples to conclude our tour. Ongoing travel can be arranged should you need help or advice.
